The fastest growing segment of the homeless population is families with children under the age of six.
Family Homelessness has increased by 30% in the short period from July through December 2008.
On any given night in January 2009, over 1,000 people were staying on the street, in emergency shelter, transitional housing or emergency hotels.
The unemployment rate is at its highest since 1967 and foreclosure rates are at their highest since the 1930s.
There has been a 20% increase in the food stamp program, unemployment is at 7% and 80,000 jobs were lost last year alone in Massachusetts.
